Kaylee by Bonnie Blue Designs Pattern Review

I absolutely love how this dress turned out. The Kaylee is sized correctly and fits really well.  Misty loved it so much she decided to make it too. We used Jenean Morrison's new Beechwood Park fabric. 


I do love this finished bubble dress, but making it did take some skill. The directions are a little vague and hard to follow, this is definitely an intermediate pattern. The instructions also assume you know a lot about sewing. I would suggest beginners making this in a class or with a little help from an experienced sewer. 

The pattern told me to cut our more fabric for the ruffles than I needed. I hate when patterns are not accurate with fabric allotments. I did use the remainder fabric to make a headband, so it did not go to waste.

Recommendations for change:

1. Rolled hem

• I decided to use a rolled hem on the ruffles. This was not listed in the instructions, but I knew it would save time and look good.

2.  Adding elastic to the ribbon and tacking it down to the dress

• Every time I went to change Braelyn's diaper, I had to retie the ribbon. This can be very frustrating if you pull to much or too little. Tacking down the ribbon will help with this, so you always get the correct amount of ribbon. 



The back of her dress would get wider and wider as the day went on. Sewing ribbon to both ends of a piece of elastic would fix this.

3. Adding snaps to the crotch. 

• If your child is not potty trained, snaps between the legs would be very useful. They could be easily added to the pattern by just adding interfacing and folding over the seam allowance. You could then sew on premade snap tape or use a snap setter. 

Besides those changes, I do love this dress. I will be making it again and again because Braelyn and Ellason  looks so cute in it.
